District15 Platforms hosted their first event at District15's latest development: The Nate. The subject was "Is it a greater challenge designing for small or big spaces?" and was 27 February (Wednesday) at 7- 8pm. Marisa Yiu Co-founder of Design Trust, Founder of Spawton Architecture Alex Jones, Founder of Charlie & Rose Ben McCarthy and Wilson Lee Founder of Studio Adjective were our guest speakers on the night and their were some great discussions about designing for size.

Marisa Yiu, Architect/ Founding Partner ESKYIU, Co-Founder/ Executive Director DESIGN TRUST

Marisa Yiu is an architect and Founding Partner of ESKYIU, a multi-disciplinary architecture studio actively integrating culture, community, art and technology based in Hong Kong. Along with her partner Eric Schuldenfrei, they were awarded the ‘Architectural League Prize’ for their installations featured in the Venice Biennale; received Architectural Record’s Design Vanguard recognition and Design for Asia Award’s for Ephemera, and Movement culture. She was the Chief Curator of the 2009 Hong Kong & Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture; curated POP-UP Studio-X Shenzhen, and currently Lead Curator of Design Trust Futures Studio.


Marisa is also co-founder and Executive Director of Design Trust, an initiative of the registered charity Hong Kong Ambassadors of Design. Yiu spearheads the creative platform to fund innovative and thought-provoking investigations in various design disciplines, from graphics, media, architecture to the urban environment, focused on Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area Region. Her commitment towards the public realm, research content and social impact projects weave together her cultural and architectural projects.


Alex Jones, Founder of Spawton Architecture

Spawton Architecture completed a variety of projects in Hong Kong and Mainland China including hotels, shopping malls and conversion projects. Spawton Architecture recently completed an industrial conversion project for New World Development and is currently designing seven footbridges for DSD in Kwun Tong.

Spawton Architecture was set up in Hong Kong in 2013 to provide design services across the region in both the architecture and interior realms. Alex completed his degree in Architecture at Kingston University in 1996 and his diploma at Westminster University in 2007 where he was shortlisted for the RIBA Silver Medal.


Ben Mccarthy, Founder of Charlie and Rose

Charlie & Rose is an internationally recognised creative design studio. They set out to create designs that meet the aspirations of their clients and create memorable experiences for the occupants. They have a diverse international project portfolio with successfully completed projects in Hong Kong, China, Macau, Vietnam, The Philippines, Singapore and Australia.

Ben Mccarthy is a qualified Interior Architect with over 15 years experience in design and development across the retail, residential, commercial and hospitality sectors in many international locations.


Wilson Lee, Founder & Design Director of Studio Adjective

Hong Kong based Studio Adjective is co-founded by Emily Ho and Wilson Lee. As a creative multidisciplinary design agency, ADJECTIVE insists to design with strategies that focus on connections with human, community and the city. Thus, creating the project with a unique adjective and enhance the project’s self-sustainability in the market. Recent projects include Galleon FashionWalk, Furniture collaboration with Ishinomaki Lab 石卷工房, Tencent Doctorswork & NOC coffee - Gough St & Sai Ying Pun.

Wilson believes a good design should be able to narrate a good story. During his practice in EDGE Design Institute, he has greatly involved in large scale urban, commercial and cultural projects with strong concept developments behind.
